In late October the oaks along the Lamprey go to rust, and the low Lee light finds every seam in the old field walls farmers stacked out of whatever the plow turned up. Doane's Landscaping, LLC works in that same language of stone — stonewalls rustic, formal, and retaining; patios and walkways; steps and staircases that make an entrance worth climbing; cobblestone and curbing, veneer, posts, and accent stones set where the eye wants them. Behind every finished face is the quieter half of the trade: excavation, gradework, drainage, the shaping of ground and water that a wall's long line depends on. They build across New Hampshire's Great Bay region, and they bring the stone indoors as well, in custom birdbaths, vases, and candleholders.
