Autumn in the Upper Valley arrives as a handoff — the maples above the Mascoma let go all at once, and the same crew that spent summer climbing into leaf starts watching the sky for the first plow-worthy inch. 6-0-Tree works that hinge: trimming and climbing, taking down the tree that has outlived its footing, laying mulch dark around new plantings, then clearing drives and dooryards across Lebanon when the valley goes white and quiet. There is a particular satisfaction in a limb set down exactly where it was meant to land, and another in a driveway opened before the first commuter is awake. Their ground runs from Hanover and Enfield south toward Claremont, Newport, and Sunapee, and west over the Connecticut into White River Junction, Woodstock, and Windsor. Come spring the work turns again — cleanup, planting, flowers going in along brick-town streets that have just finished thawing.
