From the Laconia side the Belknaps turn first, a slow red creeping down the ridge all through October while the lawns below stay stubbornly green. Belknap Tree and Plant works that stretch of the calendar hard, with leaf removal and fall cleanups that clear a yard before the first heavy wet snow presses everything flat. Through the growing months it is the steady round of mowing, trimming and edging, and keeping turf thick under the big maples where shade thins it out. Grass grown beneath trees asks for a different hand, and getting that right is its own satisfaction. The work follows Laconia out into the towns beyond it.
