Goose Pond sits in its ring of forest above the city, and on an August morning the fog lifts off it while Keene is still cool in the valley below. Lake Dog Lawn Care is already rolling by then — mowing, trimming, edging, hauling out the season's clippings and brush, opening beds in spring and clearing leaves when Otter Brook fills with them in the fall. Come December the same outfit swaps to plows: driveways and lots pushed clear, walkways shoveled, sand and salt on the icy pitch of a hillside dooryard. A yard cared for by the same hands all year holds together better. That continuity is the whole point of the job.
