The Green Thumb

About The Green Thumb

Woodsville sits where the Ammonoosuc gives itself up to the Connecticut, all brick blocks and railroad grade and small tight dooryards facing the street. The Green Thumb keeps those yards going, mowing, string trimming close to fence and foundation, edging the sidewalk line, and clearing clippings and leaves off the pavement afterward. Village lots leave no room for error, since every pass shows from the road, so every pass has to be right. On August evenings the light comes long down the river and a freshly cut lawn holds it like a held breath. Spring cleanups pull out the winter sand and grit, and fall leaf work shuts the season down.
