A nor'easter reaches Hampton straight off open water, so the snow arrives sideways and the drifts pile against anything that stands still. Clark Painting and Snow Plowing is out on Exeter Road at four in the morning, blade down, opening driveways while the storm is still deciding when to quit. The result is the whole point: a car backing out at six with nothing to argue about. Walkways get cleared too, down to the pavement, and the piles get pushed where they will not block the next pass. Storms on this coast often come in pairs, and the route runs again for the second one.
