Hampstead is a town of ponds, Big Island and Wash and Sunset and Angle, and in late August the light comes off the water and lies flat across the yards on the far side of the road. Bennett Landscape Inc mows those yards straight through the growing season, cutting, string trimming around the oaks and the old stone walls, edging the drives, and clearing the clippings so nothing gets tracked indoors. Lakeside lots are odd shapes, all slope and shade and root, which makes an even cut something you earn rather than something you simply set a machine to. Spring brings the winter debris to rake out, October brings the leaves. Between them sits a summer's worth of Saturdays that look the way people hoped they would.
