In late June the fog lifts off Saunders Bay a little after seven, and the grass along Gilford's lake roads is still heavy with the night's water. That is when Jude Landscaping Co. gets moving, working lawns in steady passes across yards that run from the village greens up toward the shoulder of the Belknap Range. There is a plain satisfaction in the last stripe laid down straight, in the edge cut sharp where turf meets a gravel drive, in the clippings swept off the walk before the truck rolls to the next street. By the time the boats are out past Ellacoya and the afternoon heat comes lifting off the water, the mowing is done and the yards look like somebody paid attention.
