In late October the Belknap ridgeline above Gilford turns copper and rust, and the wind off Winnipesaukee carries the first cold hint of what is coming. Belknap Landscape works that whole arc — turf care and property maintenance through the growing months; landscape construction and design that sets patios, retaining walls, walkways, drainage and fire pits into the slopes above the lake; irrigation and lighting tuned to long summer evenings; tree and plant health care; and snow removal when the driveways go white before sunrise. There is a plain pleasure in this line of work: a lawn cut clean to its edges, a stone path that sits like it grew there, a dooryard opened up while the water is still dark. Their trucks range across the Lakes Region and Belknap County — Laconia, Meredith, Alton, Gilmanton, Belmont, Sanbornton — out toward Moultonborough and Wolfeboro and north into the southern White Mountains. What is left behind is a property that keeps its shape from thaw to freeze and back again.
