A driveway cleared to the pavement gives a household back its morning — the bus caught, the shift made, the ordinary freedom to simply leave. Jungle Jim's works that small gift into the winter roads of Epsom, New Hampshire, where the land tips and folds toward the Suncook and the side lanes climb away from the Route 4 circle into stands of pine and hardwood. Snow removal here is patient work: the long pass at four in the morning, headlights swinging across a dooryard, the banks pushed back far enough to leave room for whatever the sky sends next. What's left behind is a clean edge against the granite and a yard that looks, in the blue light before sunrise, as though the storm had thought better of it.
