Epping was built on river clay — the Lamprey winding through town, brickyards once lining its banks, and Route 125 laid down over the top of all of it. When winter shuts that corridor down, J.G Gagnon & Son's Excavation is out in it: plowing driveways and commercial lots, pushing banks back before they crowd the sightlines, sanding and salting the spots that ice up first. Heavy equipment means the big storms and the plow wall at the end of the driveway are both manageable. The work happens overnight and gets judged at seven in the morning, which is a fair enough way to be judged. Open pavement, room to turn around, nothing in the way.
