Mr. Snow-It-All

About Mr. Snow-It-All

Before dawn on a snow day in Durham, the Mill Pond lies white and still above its old dam, and the Oyster River slips dark and quick below it. Mr. Snow-It-All plows Durham out, and the name is a cheerful bit of swagger for a job that comes down to one question: where should all this snow go? The answer is plowed driveways, drifts banked out of the way, and a clear path to the door. Once the town is stirring and the first buses roll toward campus, a cleared drive means the day can go on as planned. That is the answer in one picture: a white town, and a clean dark line drawn through it.
