Out along Rockingham Road the old stone walls still run off into the trees, the way they did when a poet farmed there and made them famous. Augusta Lawn Care of Londonderry works the ground on both sides of that history — mowing, trimming and cleanups through the green months, then plowing and shoveling once the fields go white. Summer evenings smell like cut grass and warm asphalt; February mornings smell like nothing at all, just cold. The pleasure is the same either way: a lawn striped even to the wall line, a driveway opened wide enough that nobody has to think about it. Derry hands over the whole calendar, and the work takes all of it.
