JSR Excavation & Hardscape LLC works the ledge-and-gravel ground of the Mount Washington Valley, out of North Conway, where the Saco loops through white pine and birch beneath the long gray shoulder of Moat Mountain. Most of what they do happens below the finished surface: septic system installation for homes and businesses, foundation excavation for houses, additions and commercial buildings, site preparation that clears and grades a rough acre into something you can actually build on, demolition, and drainage solutions — French drains, catch basins — that give valley water somewhere sensible to go. There is landscaping in it too, excavation cut for retaining walls and ponds, the kind of stonework that squares a slope and then simply holds it. Come winter the machines turn to snow removal, driveways opened while the ridgeline is still a blue outline. It is deeply satisfying work to look at afterward: a lot cleared to daylight, a grade that sheds rain exactly the way it should, ground made ready to carry something.
