A stone wall set true is a slow pleasure — each granite face turned to the light until the line runs clean along the edge of a yard and the ground looks like it was always meant to hold it. East Concord Grass Roots keeps to the east bank of the Merrimack, where valley floor gives way to pine and the river fog lifts off the hills by mid-morning: mowing, spring and fall cleanups, dethatching and core aeration, weeding and shrub trimming and pruning, bark mulch laid dark around perennials, annuals and young ornamental trees, compost and fertilizer worked down into stubborn New Hampshire soil. They set walkways, patios, firepits and stone walls, supply the stone itself, and install and repair automated irrigation that wakes before the street does. Come January the work climbs a ladder — roof raking, full roof shoveling, ice-dam break-up — then comes back down to the plow blade and a driveway opened while the windows of Concord are still dark.
