Winter arrives down Route 13 in a hush, and the plow lights are already moving before the sky over Lake Potanipo has settled on a color. Akorn Landscape works that early edge of the day — snow and ice cleared from commercial lots, condominium drives, and dooryards across Brookline, Hollis, Milford, Amherst, Wilton, Nashua, Pelham, and Windham — then meets April on the other side with spring clean-ups, pruning, edging, hydroseeding, fertilizing, and irrigation lines woken up one by one. By June the mown rows run out to the stone walls that stitch these hills, and a new walkway sits level in the pine shade. It is a plain, durable kind of pride: a lot passable at six in the morning, a bed edged so clean it looks cut with a thought, a yard that keeps its green all the way through a southern New Hampshire summer.
