Early on a Newfound morning, before the lake has finished letting go of its mist, the plow is already down and the walks along Bristol's mill-village streets are opening one clean stripe at a time. Extra Duty Outdoor Services is a landscape and snow outfit working the Greater Newfound Lake Region, designing and installing landscapes, tending lawns, and building sheds and decks that give a yard somewhere to sit while the evening light slides down off the hills. Come winter the work turns to plowing, shoveling walks, raking roofs and managing ice — the plain arithmetic of getting a household out the door on a January Tuesday, done for homes and businesses alike. The pleasure of it lives in the after: a bed edged crisp against the granite, a deck squared true to the treeline, a drive scraped to bare pavement while the rest of the road is still asleep.
