Brentwood is still farm country at heart — hayfields, hedgerows, and the Exeter River winding quietly through the middle of it. Our favorite stretch of the year is May, when bare ground gets hydroseeded and then, ten days on, blushes green almost overnight. After that it's mowing, trimming and edging all summer, with a cleanup when the year closes down. A new lawn taking hold in Rockingham County soil is a genuinely hopeful thing to watch happen. We come back through and keep it that way.
