Berlin sits where the Androscoggin cuts south out of the Great North Woods, and the ground under those steep mill-town streets is ledge, gravel, and hillside — land that has to be read before it can be worked. Elevated Excavation reads it: septic systems set in place, water and sewer lines run and repaired, driveways built, regraded, and prepped for asphalt, site development, retaining walls, erosion stone, and bridges. Come winter the same machines turn to plowing for homes and businesses, and to salting and sanding walkways, driveways, and parking lots while the streetlights are still burning. There is a plain, physical satisfaction in that work — a trench closed clean, a driveway crowned so the runoff goes exactly where you told it, a lot swept bare before anyone arrives. All of it within Berlin and the surrounding White Mountains.
