There is a week in late October when the Tioga River runs cold under Belmont's old mill and the mowing gives way to the rake — and J.M. Carr Landscaping turns with it, trading seasonal cleanup for the plow route that clears a commercial lot before the first light finds the hills. The rest of the year is built by hand out of the same ground: hydroseeded slopes greening in, mulch laid dark around new plantings, walls and steps set into a Lakes Region hillside until the grade finally makes sense to walk. They design it, dig it, and keep it — excavation and grading, irrigation lines threaded under the sod, landscape lighting that turns a patio into somewhere worth sitting after dusk. Come the thaw, the edges still hold, and the yard remembers the shape someone gave it.
