Late August on the Winnisquam shore, the light goes long and gold across the water around seven, and every lawn running down to it turns the color of a good idea. Those are the yards we cut — shore lots, camp roads, and the hill properties up along Province Road where the ground never quite agrees to be level. We mow to the slope, work close around beds and fieldstone, and keep the growth from swallowing the paths down to the dock. Cleanups follow when the season closes, and then the grass rests. Belmont is a fine place to spend a summer working outdoors.
