Mainely Grass

About Mainely Grass

Bedford's dooryards run long and open, hemmed by fieldstone walls that were laid for pasture and now hold back nothing but lawn, and the roads bend down toward the Merrimack with pine shade falling in stripes across them. Mainely Grass works those greens — lawn care and organic lawn care, aeration and overseeding in the cool of the shoulder seasons, tick and mosquito control along the brushy edges where the woods lean in. There is a plain satisfaction in turf that comes back thicker where the core plugs cooled and the seed took hold, and in an August evening spent out on grass that belongs to the people sitting on it. The same work carries up and down the valley — Manchester, Merrimack, Bedford, Amherst — each yard read by its slope, its shade, and the soil under it.
