Weather comes into Bartlett the hard way, funneled down out of Crawford Notch and dropped along Route 302 by the foot rather than the inch. We plow through it at night, working the pitched driveways off Bear Notch and the ones that climb toward Attitash, where getting out in the morning is not a small matter. Banks get pushed back before they close a corner, walkways get shoveled, and sand goes down wherever the grade refuses to cooperate. There's a particular satisfaction in a mountain driveway cleared black and wide by first light. Bartlett gets a real winter, and we plan our whole season around that.
