Bartlett is a narrow valley town — the Saco on one side, mountains standing up on both — and the growing season is short enough that you do not waste a week of it. Got Grass LLC mows and trims through it: the river-flat yards, the ones cut into a slope where the mower has to work crosswise, the camp and cottage lots along the notch roads. Mountain grass comes up late, then races in the long July light, and it needs the trimmer run tight to stone, root and post. Cleanups bookend the year, hauling off what the runoff and wind bring down in spring and the birch and maple leaves in October. Bartlett and the valley towns nearby, for as long as the grass is green.
