April in Auburn arrives wet and low-lit, fog sitting over Massabesic well past sunrise, and that damp gray is exactly the weather bare ground has been waiting for. NH Hydroseed LLC works one trade and one only — hydroseeding — spraying a green slurry of seed, mulch and water across raw soil so it grips where it lands, on ledge-cut yards, freshly graded lots and slopes still smelling of cut pine. The blends are mixed for New England ground and then for the spot itself: deep shade under the oaks, hard-traveled dirt by the back door, full sun off the road. Come back a week or so later and there's a faint green fur where the mud was; by midsummer it's a lawn that takes a mower cleanly and holds its color into the short amber light of fall. From Keene to Portsmouth, the Lakes Region down into northern Massachusetts, that's the whole of the work — coaxing a torn-open piece of New Hampshire back into something that grows.
