The Squam River runs right through the middle of Ashland, past the old mill and under Main Street on its way to the Pemigewasset. Land Home! keeps the lawns on both banks — mowing on a steady turn through the season, trimming where the ground gets tight along fences and foundations, edging walks and drives to a firm, obvious line. The first cleanup of the year takes off the sand and matted litter winter left; the last one gathers the color off the grass before November. Between Little Squam and the river, Ashland yards get more moisture than most and grow accordingly. Cutting them on time is how they stay even, and even is what looks right.
