There is a week in Amherst when the last plow ridge along the village green goes soft and grey, and the ground underneath wakes up hungry for seed — that hinge is where Kurt's Hydroseeding does its turning. The crew sprays a slurry of grass seed, water, fiber mulch and fertilizer across raw ground in the Souhegan valley, a green skin laid over bare earth to hold the moisture in and the slope in place, and then waits with the patience the work requires until a new lawn comes up thick where nothing was. They handle general landscaping and construction sites, clear the branches down after a storm, and rake the fall out of the yards along the stone walls before the light goes short. Come winter the same trucks push snow off driveways in Amherst, Bedford, New Boston, Goffstown, Mt Vernon, Milford, Nashua and Merrimack — dark pavement cut clean by morning, the bare ground beneath it already waiting for spring.
