Morning comes down off Mount Cardigan cold and clear, and by the time that light reaches Newfound Lake there is already work waiting — a drive opened, a dock walked out over water still holding the night's chill. Cardigan Valley Farms tends the ground and the shoreline of the Greater Newfound Area, from spring and fall cleanups, lawn care, irrigation, fertilization, pruning, planting and weeding to landscape design and installation, excavation, drainage, and driveway work. Winter turns the crew toward snow removal for homes and association properties, roads and dooryards cleared while the valley is still blue. There is a plain satisfaction in the results: a mown edge running clean to the treeline, water finally leaving where it should, a boatlift set and a swim platform floating true. When the season closes, docks and moorings come back in again, and the shore goes quiet until the light returns.
