Controlled Rain

About Controlled Rain

On a July afternoon in Omaha you can watch the weather assemble out west, thunderheads stacking over the plains until Dodge Street dims at three o'clock. Controlled Rain, a name that sounds like a forecast, looks after lawns in this city in the hours between those storms. The craft is in the rhythm: cutting before the turf turns shaggy in the humid heat, string-trimming around posts and mailboxes, squaring off the sidewalk edge. When the downpour finally breaks and rolls east toward the river, it lands on grass already in order. Few things look as fresh as a newly mown yard steaming after a summer storm.
