Where the North Platte and the South Platte lean together and become one river, the grass comes up out of bottomland soil, and Tree Medic keeps it in order. Mornings on the flat start with meadowlarks and the long freight sound carrying over from Bailey Yard, and that is when the mowers roll — early, while the dew is still down and a cut line stays honest. The work is plain enough to say out loud: a level pass across the whole yard, edges run tight along walk and drive, trimming close around the cottonwoods and fence posts, and clippings and leaves carried off when the season lets them go. Nebraska wind tests a lawn all summer, so the mowing pattern shifts week to week and the blade rides high enough that the turf holds its color deep into September. Come evening, when the light goes long and gold toward Cody Park and the sandhills north of town, a finished yard reads like a bed made square at the corners. That is the part worth doing right.
