West of Norfolk the old rail grade runs off toward the Sandhills as the Cowboy Trail, and in September the light along it turns the color of cut wheat. ASPM Landscapes works in that light — beds shaped and mulched, shrubs pruned back to a clean line, turf mowed and trimmed so the planting has something tidy to sit against. Landscape work in this part of Nebraska has to stand up to wind that crosses a hundred miles of open section, so plain and sturdy beats fussy every time. Spring cleanups open the year, fall cleanups close it, and in between the mowing keeps its rhythm. A yard that reads as finished from the street is the whole ambition, and it is enough.
