Minden Lawn and Sprinkler

About Minden Lawn and Sprinkler

Minden calls itself Nebraska's Christmas City, and every December the courthouse square strings up its lights while snow gathers along the rooflines and the parked cars ringing the block — Minden Lawn and Sprinkler works those same streets in the hours before the lights come on, clearing the walks and lots so visitors driving in for the display find plowed pavement instead of packed snow. Kearney County's winter light fades early, the sun dropping behind flat horizon well before five, which means most of this crew's work happens in that narrow window between a gray afternoon and full dark. They know the square and the blocks around it in detail — where cars park for the lights, where foot traffic backs up, where ice forms first once the temperature drops after sundown. What they leave behind is simple: a town square that's ready for its own show, safe underfoot for anyone stepping out to look up at the lights. It's a particular kind of pride, keeping the ground clear beneath a display people drive miles to see.
