About Rugger’s Outdoor

Wilderness Park runs a long wooded corridor along Salt Creek through the south side of Lincoln, and Rugger's Outdoor works the trailhead lots and the driveways of the homes backed up against that tree line, where snow off the woods tends to drift differently than it does out in the open. The creek bottom holds cold air longer than the ridges above it, so a trail that looks clear from the parking lot can still be glare ice twenty yards in under the canopy. Homeowners along here often can't get a full-size truck close to the garage without the crew clearing a path first, since older drives back here weren't built wide. Opening a trailhead lot before the first dog-walkers arrive on a cold, bright morning after a storm, and watching them head down a trail that was buried the evening before, is reason enough to start before sunrise. By midday, with the creek still running dark under a skin of ice, the lots and driveways are clear and the park is busy again.
