About Property Services

In the Telegraph District, where old warehouse brick has been turned over to offices and shops in recent years, Property Services works the parking lots and loading areas before the block's first employees arrive, clearing pavement that sits in shadow most of a Lincoln winter morning. These lots hold ice longer than the open ones out past the edge of downtown, boxed in as they are by three- and four-story brick walls that block the low winter sun for hours at a stretch. A clean sweep through a lot like that means checking the corners twice, since drainage low points here tend to hold meltwater that refreezes glass-slick overnight. A lot that was solid ice at six in the morning turning into dry, striped pavement by the time the first cars pull in is the whole job in one image. Once the district's lots are clear, the crew moves toward the next block of downtown Lincoln still waiting on its morning pass.
