On the west edge of Lincoln, where the streets give out near Pioneers Park and its stretch of native prairie, the wind has nothing to break it before it reaches the fence line where the park keeps its small bison herd, and JMB Lawn and Landscape works the driveways just past that tree line where drifts pile deepest. Snow blowing off that open prairie doesn't fall so much as travel, filling a cleared driveway back in within the hour on a bad day, so the crew often makes a second pass before calling a job finished. The homes out here back up close to the park's tallgrass, and in a hard winter the line between mowed yard and wild prairie disappears completely under white. Scraping a driveway back to bare asphalt against that kind of wind carries its own reward, especially with the bison visible in the distance working through snow to reach the grass underneath. By the time the crew turns back toward the rest of the route, the prairie edge is already drifting again behind them.
