Five in the morning, January, and the sky over King Lake is still black except for a faint wash of city light far off to the east. That is when winter workdays begin, and it is the hour Lovings mow and snow has in mind. Snow comes off the driveway and the front walk so a car can back out without a fight and nobody has to dig before coffee.
