About Hersh Digging Inc

In late August Kenesaw bakes under a high white sky, and the south wind pours across the flat Adams County cornfields like warm water. Hersh Digging works down in the soil by trade, and it also tends the grass on top of it, mowing and trimming lawns around town through the hottest stretch of the year. A lawn here has to hold its ground against heat and dry wind, and keeping it at an even height helps it carry its color into September. By evening, when the wind finally lies down and the sky over the fields turns peach, a freshly mowed yard looks cool enough to cross barefoot.
