The Lawn Standard

About The Lawn Standard

In Hildreth, a Franklin County town ringed by farm ground, a winter evening comes on early and the snow takes on the pale violet of the last light. The Lawn Standard handles snow removal here, clearing driveways and sidewalks after storms cross the open fields of south-central Nebraska. Under the streetlights each pass of the shovel leaves a dark ribbon of pavement through the white, and the cold air smells of woodsmoke and nothing else. The aim is simple: straight edges, a full-width drive, a walk clear right up to the step. By the time porch lights come on along the quiet streets, the way home is open.
