About Total Turf Care

Hastings wakes early in July, the sun coming up flat and gold over the section roads east of town, and that is the hour the mowers roll out. Total Turf Care works lawns across Adams County the way the county itself is drawn — in straight, patient lines, corner to corner, nothing left ragged at the ends. Mowing, trimming and edging, fertilization and weed control, aeration and overseeding: the plain arithmetic of a green yard on the high plains, where the wind rarely quits and a lawn has to earn its color. There is a particular satisfaction in the last pass along a walk near Heartwell Park, the edge cut clean as a ruled margin, the clippings swept off the concrete before the heat settles in for the afternoon. When the elms turn and let go, the work shifts to leaf cleanup and the fall feeding that carries a yard through a plains winter. By the time the hoses are coiled and put away, everything is squared.
