About Cates Snow Removal

Hastings sits high on the Allegheny plateau, better than sixteen hundred feet up, where Chest Creek runs cold through Cambria County coal country and winter is not a rumor but a fixture of the calendar. Snow removal is the whole trade here, and it is done the way this ground demands: plowing driveways and lots, cutting walks and steps down to bare surface, salting the grades so nobody has to guess at their footing. Storms come long and heavy on this plateau, and a drive opened at midnight can want opening again by five. So it gets opened again. Nothing about it is glamorous — it is simply the difference between a morning that works and one that does not.
