About Highland Park Lawn Company

Highland Park Lawn Company works the neighborhood it's named for and the streets around it, striping lawns in even rows through the long stretch of Nebraska summer when the flat ground around Grand Island turns green from one edge of town to the other. Elms and cottonwoods shade some of these older blocks more than others, and this crew reads each yard a little differently depending on how much open sky it gets through the day. The work runs in order through the season — mowing and edging along the walks through the growing months, feeding the ground in spring, aerating it before the heat of July sets in. Streets here sit close enough together that a well-kept yard shows against its neighbors, and the crew moves block to block with that in mind, one mowed lawn leading into the next down the row. By the height of summer the neighborhood holds a kind of matching rhythm, edge lines straight and grass cut to the same even height from one yard to the next.
