Fort Calhoun sits up on the bluffs above the Missouri, close enough to the reconstructed grounds of old Fort Atkinson that river-valley fog still rolls up into town some winter mornings before the plows do. Hager Outdoor works those bluff-top streets early, clearing driveways while that fog is still burning off the lowland, the river itself hidden somewhere below the tree line. There's a hush to the work up here — no highway noise, just the scrape of a blade and a wide view east toward Iowa once the air clears. By midmorning, the driveways along Fort Calhoun's ridge sit bare, the valley below finally visible again, snow still holding in the low ground where the fog used to be.
