Curtis lies down in the Medicine Creek valley, where the loess canyons of southwest Nebraska fold the land into shelter and shadow. It's a college town in miniature, home to the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture, and after a winter storm its streets wake to the growl of diesel engines.
