About Cozad Services Inc.

The old depot area downtown still carries the sign marking the hundredth meridian, the line nineteenth-century surveyors used to divide the well-watered East from the dry high plains starting just west of Cozad, and the businesses and driveways along that same stretch of downtown are what Cozad Services Inc. clears every winter. The crew works both commercial lots downtown and residential drives out toward the edges of town, plowing the same streets whether the job is a business needing its lot open by eight or a homeowner needing a driveway clear before a Dawson County commute. Storms moving up the Platte valley tend to hit Cozad with a drier, harder-driven snow than towns farther east, one that packs into drifts along a curb rather than sitting in a soft blanket across a yard. The crew clears walkways and steps downtown near the old rail line and works out through the residential grid after, salting where morning shade off the buildings keeps the ice from breaking up. The route follows the town's own layout, working outward from the depot and the meridian marker at its center to the driveways at its edge.
