Veterans Boulevard didn't exist a generation ago, and neither did most of the subdivisions branching off it — West Fargo has been building new streets faster than the map can keep up, and JMR Construction has poured a fair share of the driveways and pads under those new houses. That same familiarity with fresh concrete carries into winter, since a new driveway holds moisture differently than an older one and can ice over faster than the street in front of it. The crew works the newer developments on the west and south edges of town, clearing driveways and lot pads before the morning commute funnels everyone back toward the older part of West Fargo and on into Fargo itself. Construction sites still active through the cold months need their own kind of clearing too, keeping access open for equipment and deliveries even before a house is finished. Out here where the subdivisions end and the fields start, the line between someone's new front yard and open farmland is sometimes only a few feet.
