About River AG
The farm ground around Washburn steps down in terraces toward the Missouri, each level holding its own pocket of cold air on a still January morning, and River AG works those terraces the way a grower reads a slope in spring, from the top down, adjusting for what each level gives back. Fog off the river settles into the lowest terraces first, sometimes freezing directly onto a driveway apron before the higher ground has even started to frost over, and River AG times its earliest runs around exactly that pattern. River AG clears farmstead lanes and yards across those terraces, taking the low ground with extra care where ice forms fastest and the higher fields with the longer, faster passes the open land allows. Toward Wilton and Underwood the terraces flatten into ordinary McLean County farmland, and the work there settles into a simpler rhythm without the river's complications. A cleared farmyard here, seen from the bluff road above, shows dark against the terraced white ground below it, a straight lane running down to the barn and back. By the time the river fog burns off midmorning, River AG has usually finished the low ground and moved on to the fields above it, following terraces the Missouri cut out long before anyone farmed them.
