About K & D Services

Upriver from Washburn, Garrison Dam holds back the long reach of Lake Sakakawea, and the cold air that rolls off that much open water shapes the town's winters more than most people passing through would guess, arriving damp and heavy instead of the drier cold common further out on the prairie. K & D Services clears Washburn's streets and driveways through that particular kind of snow, wetter and quicker to pack than the powder further from the river, so routes get run a little sooner after a storm ends than they might elsewhere. The town's grid sits square above the river, laid out early enough that Main Street still runs straight down toward the water, and K & D Services keeps that whole stretch open from the highway in to the river landing. Out past the edge of town, farm lanes catch a drier, lighter snow more typical of the rest of McLean County, and the crew runs a faster, wider blade pass there than the wetter ground near the river ever allows. Late in a cold snap, once the lake itself has locked up enough for ice houses to go out, the roads leading to the landing see steady traffic that needs clearing as much as any driveway in town. Through all of it, K & D Services keeps Washburn's square grid open, river cold or prairie cold alike.
