Where the Des Lacs meets the Mouse River near Burlington, June mornings come up under a low sheet of fog that burns off around eight and leaves every lawn beaded with dew. Tony's mow & snow starts the day in it, waiting out the wet just long enough for a cut that lifts clean instead of clumping. The work is mowing, trimming and edging, done on a route that runs from the west end of Minot out toward the river towns. A good morning ends with the sun full up, the grass laid over in even bands, and the trimmer line still warm. It is a plain trade, but a well-kept yard is one of the first things anyone notices about a house.
