On the newest edge of Jamestown, where fresh streets curve out into what used to be open section land, Vetter Construction LLC clears the half-built subdivisions its own crews are still framing through the winter. A construction site holds snow differently than a finished yard — piled against stacked lumber, drifted into open foundations, packed hard on gravel that hasn't been graded level yet — and clearing it enough to keep the framing crews working is its own kind of job before the first insulation ever goes in. Once those lots are passable, the same trucks swing back through older, settled parts of town for ordinary driveways and short commercial lots, the work simpler with real curbs and real driveways to follow. Grain trucks and school traffic move through downtown the same as always while, out on the edge of town, a subdivision buried under a foot of new snow slowly turns back into a set of actual streets, plowed into being before it's even finished being built.
