Up the dam road north of town, where Jamestown Reservoir holds still and grey under the ice, Krapp Construction plows the approach that the ice-fishing trucks and the dam's own service road depend on all winter. The lake ices over hard enough most years to carry a truck, and the road in has to stay just as reliable — graded clean edge to edge, no berm high enough to catch a bumper in the dark. From there the crew comes back into Jamestown proper for driveways and short commercial runs, working the same equipment down to a smaller scale without losing the care. A quiet morning on the reservoir, wind moving low fog off the ice, is about as good as this work gets. What's left afterward is a clean stretch of gravel and blacktop from the water's edge back into town, ready before the first truck heads out to fish.
